چکیده
C entral retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) in the young is also known as papillophlebitis and is a rare presentation.1 Retinal vein occlusion has been known to be associated with many systemic conditions.1,2 Association of hyperhomocysteinemia with retinal vein occlusion was reported in the literature.2-4 There was controversy, however, over whether there was correlation between methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene mutations and hyperhomocysteinemia with the CRVO.5-8 We report a case of young female with unilateral papillophlebitis who was found to have positive homozygous mutations for MTHFR C677T and A1298C genes, which are suggestive of hyperhomocysteinemia.

Common Mutations of the Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase (MTHFR) Gene in Non-Syndromic Cleft Lips and Palates Children in North-West of Iran
Introduction: Cleft lips and cleft palates are common congenital abnormalities in children. Various chromosomal loci have been suggested to be responsible the development of these abnormalities. The present study was carried out to investigate the association between the suspected genes (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase [MTHFR] A1298C and C677T) that might contribute into the etiology of the...
متن کاملA Rare Case of Cerebral Sinovenous Thrombosis Associ at ed with MTHFR A1298C and C677T Mutations
Neonatal cerebral sinovenous thrombosis (CSVT) is a rare disease with severe neu rological sequelae. Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is a key enzyme in the folate cycle, and mutations in MTHFR are associated with vascular diseases. Here, we report the case of a newborn with MTHFR mutationassociated CSVT. Analysis of MTHFR in the patient detected heterozygous C677T (677CT) and A129...
متن کاملAssociation of Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase (MTHFR) Gene C677T and A1298C Polymorphisms with Myocardial Infarction From North of Fars Province
Background: The association between Methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase polymorphism and Coronary Artery diseases risk has been both confirmed and refuted in a number of published studies. The aim of this study was to investigate whether genetic polymorphisms of MTHFR (C677T, A1298C) contributed to the development of myocardial infarction (MI). Materials and Methods: The present case-contro...
متن کاملFactor V Leiden, MTHFR C677T and Prothrombin Gene Mutation G20210A in Iranian Patients with Venous Thrombosis
Background: Factor V Leiden, Prothrombin gene (G20210A) and MTHFR (C677T) polymorphism are the main biomarkers for evaluation of tendency for venous thromboembolism. We aimed to investigate the frequency of mutations in factor V Leiden, Prothrombin G20210A and MTHFR C677T and identify the genetic status for these mutations in patients with venous thrombosis. Methods: This study was carried out...
متن کاملC677T and A1298C polymorphisms of the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase gene: incidence and effect of combined genotypes on plasma fasting and post-methionine load homocysteine in vascular disease.
BACKGROUND Moderately increased plasma concentrations of total homocysteine (tHcy) have been shown to be an important risk factor for vascular diseases. Two common polymorphisms of the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene, the thermolabile C677T and a more recently reported A1298C polymorphism, may contribute to hyperhomocysteinemia. METHODS Using PCR and restriction fragment leng...
